Summary

Four thousand years ago, Jerusalem was a small and isolated town perched on a ridge between the Mediterranean Sea and the desert. Today, it is a metropolitan area of nearly one million inhabitants, drawing global attention and visitors from around the world.

In the meantime, the monotheistic religions were born there; the greatest conquerors seized it; the largest empires clashed over it. Egyptian, Hebrew, Persian, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Crusader, Mamluk, Ottoman, British… Jerusalem has always stood at the heart of the world’s interests and passions. As the cradle of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, it is today a spiritual capital for more than half of humanity.

Across four 52-minute episodes, famous and anonymous witnesses who have walked the streets of Jerusalem through the centuries recount this complex history.
